Joseph R. Gagliano, Jr.

Joseph R. Gagliano, Jr. (jrg@jgagliano.com) created his self-named, boutique entertainment law firm in January 2002. Prior to that time, he was a partner and member of the Entertainment Practice Group of the New York office of Squadron, Ellenoff, Plesent & Sheinfeld, LLP. He has more than seventeen years of experience in advising clients on a wide variety of legal issues including general intellectual property, copyright, trademark, licensing, publishing, merchandising, unfair competition, employment and labor, UCC transactions, business organizations and franchising.

Additionally, as the owner of a talent/project development agency and a recording studio, Mr. Gagliano has been actively involved in the entertainment business for all of his adult life. He draws upon this background and expertise in representing companies and individuals in the music, film, television, theater, publishing, advertising, Internet, and new media industries.

Mr. Gagliano conducts negotiations on behalf of screen, television and stage actors; motion picture directors/producers, screenwriters and playwrights; authors; recording artists; independent record producers; composers; music publishers; independent record labels; independent managers; night club operators and concert promoters.

Mr. Gagliano possesses extensive experience in the creation and negotiation of recording and publishing contracts, management and agency agreements, music production contracts, work-for-hire arrangements, ancillary video and merchandising agreements, film/theatrical development and production agreements and various types of option agreements. Having represented the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists for more than six years, he also has extensive knowledge of film, television, theater and music industry collective bargaining agreements. He is frequently called upon to effectuate informal dispute resolution and conflict avoidance among various constituencies in the entertainment industry.

Actively committed to pro bono activities, Mr. Gagliano serves as a member of the board of directors and general counsel for several not-for-profit corporations. His contributions benefit organizations including the National Marfan Foundation, the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation, New Horizons Adult Education, St. John's Bread & Life Soup Kitchen, and the Vincentian Service Corps.
